Reigning Miss Rogers City to compete in Junior Miss pageant

Sunday will mark the beginning of an exciting week for Alison Schuiteman, the reigning Miss Rogers City, as she prepares to compete at Alpena High School in the 45th annual Michigan Junior Miss competition. Twenty-two high school seniors from across the state will be vying for more than $10,000 in cash scholarships and more than $1.2 million in college tuition scholarships.

The state winner will be named following the program Saturday, March 8 at the Stanley C. Beck Auditorium. The new Michigan Junior Miss will represent the state of Michigan at the national televised program, America?s Junior Miss, in Mobile, Alabama June 28. Alison is one of three RCHS valedictorians and the daughter of Dr. Jay and Debra Schuiteman of Rogers City.

The one-week stay in Alpena will be filled with rehearsals, a career/job shadowing seminar and several learning opportunities from other planned seminars. While in Alpena, Alison will visit Alpena?s Public Safety Building and participate in a mini-course on self-defense, first aid and CPR. The group also will visit local elementary schools and work with students on one of the Junior Miss programs, ?Be Your Best Self.? Shopping trips are on the agenda as well as a special luncheon with the Alpena Kiwanis Club.
