Moran Iron Works honored for special project completed for DTE

Employees of Moran Iron Works, Inc. have been recognized for saving DTE Energy more than $25 million. The employees completed Phase 1 of DTE’s Selective Catalytic reduction project in yet another unique project for the Onaway area business.

“The Selective Catalytic Reduction is like a catalytic converter on a vehicle. It’s there to take the emissions out so they don’t go into the atmosphere,” said Tom Moran, owner.

“This all started 14 months ago when Tom contacted us (DTE) to be included in the project,” said Bill Terrasi, project manager for DTE.

On behalf of a job well done, a pirme rib and shrimp luncheon with all the fixings were served to Moran employees recently.

Moran presented special awards to employees Michael Brown, Victor Ruppert, John Sherburne, and Keith Raymond for outstanding work they did on the project.

Moran Iron Works fabricated 1,500 tons of steel ductwork for DTE. This ductwork attaches to a coal fired plant to reduce nitrogen oxyide, sulfure dioxide and mercury fumes to comply with Michigan”s Clear Skies Act of 2002.

“This all ties into the corridor to the Rogers City port, and being able to use that corridor to ship very large items from the port,” said Tom Moran.
