Posen names top students for the Class of 2003

Posen principal Cliff Kelly has announced the honor graduates for the Class of 2003. Earning the honor of valedictorian is Charles Kroll with a grade point average of 3.92. Christie Klein is salutatorian with a grade point average of 3.89. Posen will be granting diplomas to 27 graduates at commencement exercises Friday, June 6. Eleven members will receive diplomas as honor students. Charles Kroll is the son of Thomas and Jeanine Kroll. He is a three-year member of the student council and has been a class officer for four years. Charles has participated in football and basketball, is the secretary/treasurer of the ski club, and has participated in Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search for four years.

Charles has three years of perfect attendance, has been on the National Honor Roll for two years, received a chemistry award, and has been on the school honor roll all four years of his high school career. Following graduation, Charles will major in mechanical engineering at Alpena Community College and later transfer to Kettering University.

Christie Klein is the daughter of Robert and Pamela Klein. She is a four-year member of the Trip Club, participated in basketball for two years, softball for one year has been on the student council one year and was a band member for two years.

Klein has received the MEAP Award and the ACT Award. Christie plans to attend Alpena Community College in the fall and will pursue a career in elementary education.

Julie Lewandowski, 3.87, is the daughter of Stanley and Pamela Lewandowski. She is a member of the National Honor Society, serving as president her senior year. Julie also is a member of the Pep Club for four years, serving as vice president, student council where she is the secretary, a four-year member of SADD, and has been the secretary for four years for the 2003 Trip Club. Lewandowski has participated in basketball, volleyball, softball cheerleading, and NEMYAC for two years. Julie was chosen first runner-up in the Miss Posen Pageant. Following graduation Julie plans to attend Central Michigan University to pursue a career in actuarial science.

Rebecca Nefske, 3.57, is the daughter of Richard and Deborah Nefske. She has been a member of the Trip Club, student council, the yearbook staff, and the band. Rebecca plans to attend Alpena Community College where she will pursue a career in elementary education.

Alison Smolinski, 3.50, is the daughter of Richard and Constance Smolinski. She is president of the Trip Club where she has been a member for four years, and has participated in basketball, track and the Pep Club. Alison received the Most Improved Track Award her freshman year. Following graduation Alison plans to attend Ferris State University where she will major in international business.

Dale Lewandowski, 3.37, is the son of Richard and Darlene Lewandowski. He has participated all four years in football and the Trip Club, and has been a three-year member of the basketball and track teams, as well as two years with Ski Club. Dale received the Most Valuable Player his junior year for track and an award for hurdles. Dale will attend Alpena Community College next fall where he will major in general studies.

Thomas Romel, 3.35, is the son of Leo and Denyse Romel. He has been a member of the student council, the Trip Club and Pep Club all four years, has participated four years in football and basketball, as well as one year with the Ski Club. Thomas was named all area guard his junior year in football as well as all conference guard. In his senior year he was named all area linebacker, all conference guard and all state linebacker. Following graduation, Thomas plans to attend Ferris State University where he will major in mechanical engineering.

Jeremy Chojnacki, 3.29, is the son of Roger and Pam Chojnacki. He has been a four-year member of the football and basketball teams, and Trip Club. Jeremy received North Star League honorable mention in football his junior and senior years. Jeremy plans to attend Alpena Community College following graduation where he will major in mechanical engineering.

Krystle Styma, 3.14, is the daughter of Gregory and Karen Styma. She is a four-year member of the Trip Club and has participated in softball for four years and basketball for two. She has also been a member of the student council. Following graduation, Krystle plans to attend North Central Michigan College in the fall, then transfer to Grand Valley State University to continue her study of law.

Patrick Bronikows

ki, 3.09, is the son of Art and Rose Bronikowski. He has participated two years in basketball and track, golf one year, and the Ski Club for three years. Patrick has been a four-year member of the Trip Club, four years in ETS and has coached for the Presque Isle Basketball Association his senior year. Patrick received the Most Improved Player during the 2001-2002 basketball season and won an award for all field events during the 2002 track season. Following graduation Patrick plans to further his education at Alpena Community College for one year then transfer to Ferris State University where he will study medicine.

Melanie Hentkowski, 3.00, is the daughter of Jimmie and Mary Jane Hentkowski. She has participated for four years in the Pep Club, SADD, and Trip Club, three years in the pep band and two in the Ski Club. Melanie received the United States Achievement Academy Award for history and government, is a member of Who?s Who Among High School Students and is on the National Honor Roll. Following graduation, Melanie will attend Alpena Community College for two years then transfer to Wayne State University where she will pursue a career in psychology.
