Posen, RC to vote on school board seats in June

Two school board positions will be available in this year?s election in the Rogers City Area Schools and Posen Consolidated Schools, and unlike past elections, filing petitions isn?t the only way for a candidate to get his or her name on the ballot, if they are willing to cough up some cash. The terms currently filled by RC board president Scott McLennan and trustee Keith Gordon, Posen trustees Kim Roznowski and Ken Wozniak, expire on June 30.

THE DEADLINE to file nominating petitions and affidavits of identity is April 7 at 4 p.m. Forms can be picked up at the superintendent?s office in both districts, on the first floor of the Grambau Education Center on Huron Avenue in Rogers City and the main office in the school building in Posen.

No one had picked up any nominating forms as of Monday afternoon in either district. The terms of the successful candidates will begin July 1, and run until June 30, 2007.

TO COMPLETE a nominating petition, a candidate needs to gather the signatures of six registered voters. It can be no higher than 20, but no lower than six. In lieu of collecting signatures, a person need only pay a non-refundable $100 fee, and their name will appear on the June ballot if they file all the proper paperwork by April 7.

If there are no candidates by the first Monday in April, the only other way to run for the board is by submitting a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate by Friday, June 6. The annual school election will be June 9.
