Board president doesn’t refile for school board seat in RC
Three newcomers have filed for four board of education seats in the Rogers City Area Schools and the Posen Consolidated Schools. There are two board seats available in each district and only one of the incumbents, Ken Wozniak in Posen, filed a nominating petition. Not seeking re-election are Rogers City president Scott McLennan, Keith Gordon, and Kim Roznowski in Posen.
The two candidates who will have their names appear on the ballot June 9 in Rogers City are Robert G. Frost and Richard D. Hanson, while Connie Krajniak is the lone newcomer in Posen. McLennan, who has served as board president for two consecutive terms, will complete his four-year term June 30. He said he needs to spend more time with family and with his business.
?I?ve been glad to serve,? he said. ?I enjoyed it.? McLennan said he?ll ask the board if he can stay active with the newly-formed facilities planning committee ?to continue the progress made in that area.?
?It makes me feel bad to be at a board or committee meetings and miss out on their activities,? McLennan said of his children. He has three sons and one daughter.
McLennan said the district is in very good hands. In addition to serving as president, he
Wozniak is completing his first four-year term on the board and wants to use the experience he has gained to help the Posen Schools through some tough financial times.
?There are so many changes going on with (budget) cuts needing to be made,? Wozniak said. ?My experience would be helpful.? He still has a daughter in the schools, which is another reason he?s running again.
The only other way to run for the Posen and Rogers City board is by submitting a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate by Friday, June 6. The annual school election will be June 9.
