Viking track are back in action Monday at Joburg

The Posen track teams participated in three meets over the last week. The Vikings were in Gaylord, Fairview, and at home April 30 for the Presque Isle County championships. The most recent action came Tuesday at the Fairview Invitational. In the girls? events, Posen placed ninth (23) behind first place Alcona (134). Jackie Szczerowski was the highest placer, taking second in the high jump (4?10?). She was third in the 100m hurdles (17.78) and fourth in the 300m hurdles (54.75). The 3200m relay team of Szczerowski, Kendra Krajniak, Amanda Swan, and Jill Krajniak took fifth (12:11:40). Fairview was tops for the boys with 122 points. The Posen boys wound up in 11th place, failing to record a point.

LAST FRIDAY, the teams traveled to Gaylord to participate in the Herald Times Invitational with the Posen boys finishing fifth with 14 points. Individually, senior Dale Lewandowski continues to do well. He was second in the 110m hurdles (17.62). Lewandowski also participated with a couple of relay teams that placed. The 1600m relay team, which consisted of Kalin Diffin, James Sobek, Paul Romel and Lewandowski, was third (3:54:23).

The 2400m medley team of Curtis Beach, Sobek, Romel, and Lewandowski finished fourth (6:55:33). The Viking girls took sixth (six points), with Gaylord St. Mary making it a sweep of the meet on both the boys? and girls? side. Szczerowski was fourth in the 100m hurdles (18.90), while Meranda Mulka and Kendra Krajniak placed fifth in the discus (123?51/2?). The 2400m medley team of Swan, Szczerowski, Kendra Krajniak and Mulka took a fifth (8:53:00). THE ONAWAY boys claimed the county championship this season (196), with Rogers City second (138) , and Posen third (78). The Rogers City girls were first (223), Onaway second (124), while Posen was third (76). Lewandowski took first place in the 110m hurdles (19:20).

The Viking 400m relay team of Lewandowski, Diffin, Sobek, and Ryan Misiak earned the top spot over Onaway in the event. Rogers City didn?t participate. Posen also earned a first in what is called the whale race (58:19). There were no points given, just medals. Beach was second in the 400m dash (100.5) and the mile run (5:29). The 1600m relay team of Lewandowski, Sobeck, Beach, and Diffin took a second (4:04). The 800m relay team of Sobek, Diffin, Misiak, and Lewandowski also was second (1:49:03).

SOBEK EARNED a second in the long jump (16? 71/2?), while Pat Bronikowski took a third in the shot put (35?7?) and the discus (98? 91/2?).

Szczerowski finished first in the 300m hurdles (56.49), the 100m hurdles (19:34) and was second in the high jump (4?10?). The Posen girls were first in the whale race (1:03) and the 3200m relay race (12:12:08). The whale team consisted of Kendra and Jill Krajniak, Swan, and Mulka. Jill and Kendra Krajniak, along with Swan and Szczerowski, were on the 3200m relay team. Jill Krajniak earned a second in the 800m run (3:00). Kendra Krajniak was third in the 800m dash (31.56), the 100m dash (15.39, and the discuss (56?10?). Swan was a fourth in the 800m run (3:15:03), while Mulka was a fifth in the discus (54?51/2).

The Viking squads are preparing for a meet at Johanesburg-Lewiston Monday and the Atlanta Relays Tuesday.
