Airport likely to close Monday for renovations

A “notice to airmen” will be sent out by county airport manager Mike Jermeay advising that the Rogers City airport will be closed beginning Monday (June 9) as renovations continue.

Mary Ann Heidemann, County Development Commission director, appeared before the Presque Isle County Board of Commissioners last week to seek approval of an amendment to the contract with, URS, the airport engineering firm, and she updated the board members on the news.

“Remember we were waiting, waiting, and waiting for the federal funds to come down,” Heidemann told the board.

“The funds are in the state of Michigan and will be assigned to our project within the next week. The good part of that is that they”’ be able to tell the contractor to proceed.”

The runway project is expected to be ready in late July, but the entire project will not be completed until September.
