Auction to clean house at schools

Forty years of accumulating material Onaway Area Community Schools, including six portable classrooms, most past their prime, will be auctioned off June 19. The six portables were added to the auction list at Monday night?s board of education meeting.

?They have lived their useful life,? said superintendent Bob Szymoniak,. ?We want to make the place look good.?

Two of the portables will moved this summer, while the other four will be needed for the 04 school year. By selling the portables the district won?t have to pay the $60,000 demolition costs, and may make money form them.

?Using the portables for storage sheds is not practicable,? according to , president, Sue Nelson. Nelson explained what it would take to move them and that the cost wouldn?t be feasible for the preparation of a site.

Auction merchandise ranges from radial arm saws, electric typewriters, sewing machines, file cabinets, chalkboards, and a whirlpool The list is growing day-by-day. Some of the articles to be auction were stored in the Tower School, while other items came from Millersburg and Onaway.
