Baseball players honored by region, district, conference

RC Baseball all conference- Honors have begun to be handed out as the Straits Area Conference, district, and regional baseball honors were handed out. The Huron baseball team landed two players on the all-region team, five players on the all-district team and six on the all-SAC team.

Cody Hurst, a senior centerfielder who battled back from a football knee injury, had a dream season at the plate. He had six home runs, 45 RBI and hit an astonishing .579 (62-for-107) while being credited with 25 steals and 43 runs and striking out just four times. Hurst also made first team in the SAC and all-district honors.

Aaron Florip made the all-region team, the all-district team and second team SAC. He pitched (1-2, 2.72), and played third and first for coach Howard Madsen. The left-handed-swinging senior hit .414 with one homer, 25 RBI, with three doubles and five steals. He struck out just three times in 116 at bats. ovided solid defense while batting .400 with 19 RBI in 80 at bats.

Judd Vekaryasz, a junior who split time between pitcher and shortstop, made both first team all-SAC and all-district honors. He had a 9-2 record on the mound with a 1.40 ERA, striking out 68 in 70 innings. Freshman Cody Wenzel played infield and pitched (4-3, 3.36), while batting at a .467 clip. He had 19 steals and led the Hurons with 12 doubles. Adam LaLonde made second team all-SAC. He pitched (6-5, 3.32) and played infield (.339, 2 HR, 31 RBI). Junior outfielder Justin Kelley made second team, all-SAC. He hit .343 with 12 RBI and 10 steals.

The team hit .387 with 15 home runs and 200 RBI. On the mound, the team had an ERA of 2.31 with 182 strikeouts in 206 innings.
