Cody Hurst makes first team all-state

And what a comeback it was! After a devastating knee injury shortened his football season and nearly wiped out his basketball season, Cody Hurst?s patience and hard work paid off on the baseball diamond.

e senior centerfielder made the Division III all-state first team on the strength of a monstrous 2003 season. Hurst led the team with a .579 batting average, six home runs, and 45 RBI. His 25 steals were tops on the team as were his three triples. In the outfield he wasn?t charged with an error, recording 64 putouts and six assists.MO< Hurst made the all-region, all-district, and first team Straits Area Conference teams as well. Other first team Division III outfielders include seniors Eric Rose of Blissfield, Dan Ryan of Saginaw Nouvel, Colby Caid of Three Oaks River Valley, and junior Antony Peak of Edwardsburg.

The Michigan High School Coaches Association announced the selections on its website Tuesday afternoon.
