Progress continues on city water and sewer project

Has your house or business shaken? Have you heard the booms? It?s more than probable from the blasting that Glawe, Inc. has been doing to break up rock formations blocking the installation of the sewer lines. Ronald L. Grochowski, Wilcox Professional Services, said, ?Charges are being set on Cedar Street next. The rock seems to run out as you get to the top of the hill.? Grochowski is the inspector for the sewer project, and spoke at the city commission meeting Monday evening, giving an up-date.

Bernie Schmeltzer, commissioner, asked, ?Do they let the people around the blasting know before the blasting starts?? Grochowski answered, ?Oh, yes they do.? Schmeltzer said ?A week ago Friday someone at Onaway Credit Union (in Onaway) said they thought someone drove into the building, the blast was so strong.? Joe Hefele, city manager, said ?They are filming, they go in and film the homes that are right around the area right before they start to let the home owners know before they blast.?

The filming is done to tell if anything was damaged during the blasting. Gary Wregglesworth, mayor, asked of Grochowski, ?How are they doing as far as being on schedule? Are they pretty much where they want to be??

Grochowski answered, ?I?m not absolutely sure, they still may be behind. The pipe is going in better.? Schmeltzer asked, ?How many feet of pipe per day is being laid?? Grochowski answered, ?Sixty, sixty-six feet per day the first week.?
