Ranger program offered at Hoeft State Park

The Hoeft State Park Adventure Ranger program is under way. The daily programs are free of charge, but a $4 daily parking fee or $20 annual sticker is required for entry into the park.

The program is targeted at adults, children, families, and groups, and is a cooperative effort of the Kalamazoo Nature Center and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

Each presentation runs about one hour under the direction of Heather Pines, the park?s Adventure Ranger. Children under the age of eight must be accompanied by an adult, and for the evening programs, children under age 13 must be accompanied by an adult. This week?s schedule for the program is as follows: Thursday, June 26, 10 a.m: ?Story Time!? Enjoy a nature story, explore the area and have fun making a craft. Meet at campsite No. 1.

2 p.m: ?Feathered Friends!? Explore the world of birds and learn a few tricks to identify them. Meet at campsite No. 1. Friday, June 27, 11 a.m: ?Rock On!? Explore geology, enjoy discovering rocks and have fun with activities. Meet at campsite No. 1. 2 p.m: ?Amazing Ani

mals!? Come explore the world of mammals. Meet at campsite No. 1. Saturday, June 28, 11 a.m: ?Insect Safari!? Explore the area finding insects and learn all about them. Enjoy activities and crafts. Meet at campsite No. 1. 2 p.m: ?Beach Bonanza!? Enjoy some time at the beach. Activities and crafts. Meet at campsite No. 1. No program on Mondays.

Tuesday, July 1, 7 p.m: ?Salamander Search!? Enjoy a hike through the woods while searching for salamanders. Meet at the day use/picnic parking area. Wednesday, July 2, 11 a.m: ?Terrific Turtles!? Come learn more about turtles and make your own! Meet at campsite No. 1.

3 p.m: ?Forest Frenzy.? Enjoy a hike and spend some time in the forest. Meet at the day use/picnic parking area.
