St. Dominic in Metz to host summer festival

Query: where will 250 chickens meet their waterloo on Sunday? Answer: at the annual St. Dominic Summer Festival which will kick off at noon Sunday and last until 6 p.m. Sister Rita Epple assures there will be a new handicap ramp which will make the bingo and dinner hall more accessible.

?IT?S GOING to be a ?hot time? in Metz, and we hope the weather will cooperate,? Sister Rita said. In addition to chicken dinners, there will be hot dogs, and this year, ice cream cones or ice cream in a dish to enjoy. The carnival-like event is an old-fashioned gathering with everyone welcome. There is always something for everyone, young and old alike.

Last year the auction alone netted the parish $1,500 and the fair as a whole brought in $11,000. ?All our food is homemade from scratch,? Sister Rita said. ?None of that ?food service? stuff.?

THE FOOD preparations will use 600 pounds of chicken for the 500 dinners, 10 gallons of cole slaw and 10 gallon

s of macaroni salad, along with 15 gallons of both potato salad and baked beans.

Before the barbecue, Carolyn Haske will bake 50 homemade loaves of both white and wheat bread, all from scratch…no frozen bread dough here, folks! The children have games, raffles, and food, and the older generation may participate in bingo, the auction, and a dance from 3 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. featuring the music of Northern Sounds.

Everyone is welcome to experience the delicious barbecue chicken dinner the festival has become famous for. The price is $7 for adults, $6 for a petite serving, and $4 for children 12 and under.

It?s strictly a wholesome affair and no alcoholic beverages are allowed on the premises.
