Bits and pieces of local news and township business, as conducted at local township meetings, appear in a monthly update. ?Krakow Township conducted its monthly meeting June 10 and clerk Elaine Misiak reported treasurer Rimantas Strolis informed the board of five parcels available to the township because of foreclosure by the county March 4. The township must respond by July 11. Prosecuting attorney Donald McLennan addressed the board on behalf of HUNT. The board entered into a one-year contract in the amount of $500.

The board passed, by majority vote, a motion not to forgo its adjusted quarterly payment on the 2002-2003 budget as proposed by Posen Fire and Rescue. Attorney Donald Field filed his report on current cases and violation correspondence. The board approved having Field proceed in a case involving accessory building violations of the township zoning ordinance off Grand Pointe Road.

Zoning Administrator Frank Blaser filed his report. The board approved having attorney Field contact the owner of a structure on McCreery Drive that is in non-compliance of the township zoning ordinance. Discussion was held on a complaint filed on the basis of the township noise ordinance. The planning commission quarterly meeting will be conducted June 12 at 7 p.m. A public hearing will be conducted to consider a zoning district change on Grand Lake and Long Lake from forest recreational (personal) to rural residential (R-1). The board adopted the rezoning request of Barbara Ennest as recommended by the planning commission. A joint workshop is scheduled for Thursday, June 19. The workshop will include members of the planning commission and zoning board of appeals. The board approved resealing and marking of the township parking lot.

The board received $531.62 from PA 48. Discussion was conducted with regard to a concern filed by Case Township regarding ?dead spots? in their emergency services system. County commissioner Field assured the board that an upgrade is scheduled for the tower located behind the county building. Supervisor Kevin Przybyla received notification from the office of U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak confirming his office has addressed a shoulder concern on Long Lake Highway with the PI County Road Commission. The board approved a line item budget change for planning commission expenses. The Michigan Township Offcials Association quarterly meeting/picnic is scheduled for July 1 at 6:30 p.m. in Belknap. The next regular meeting will be July 8.

?Metz Township conducted its monthly meeting June 10 and clerk Nancy Kandow reported the board approved moving additional funds from the general fund if necessary to meet deposit requirements for renewal of a CD if a higher interest payment can b

e attained. Notice was received from the county treasurer regarding lot number 6, which is up for tax sale. It was the consensus of the board to decline the opportunity to purchase lot number 6.

Clerk Kandow presented financial statements for the month ending May 31. The treasurer?s and clerk?s books were noted to be in balance. The board conducted discussion regarding radio reception issues in the county and also Public Act 48 of 2002, regarding telecommunications maintenance about right-of-way reimbursement to townships. The board tabled action on these two issues pending discussion at the July 1 MTOA meeting.

The board trustees reported on the Ambulance and Fire Board meeting they attended. The next meeting will be July 8 at 8:30 p.m. at Metz Township Hall.
