UPDATED: Hurons bounced from softball, baseball tournaments

Tears flowed freely as both the Rogers City High School baseball and softball teams were eliminated from the MHSAA tournaments in the first round Saturday in Onaway.

In baseball, the Hurons’ streak of 13 consecutive district titles came to an end at the hands of Inland Lakes in the first game. The first two Bulldog batters walked in the first inning, and they both scored, providing the the only runs of the 2-0 game.

Later in the day, the Huron softball team came back to tie the score at 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning, only to have the Bulldogs get an unearned run in the bottom half of the frame to stun the Hurons. Rogers City had come back to tie the score at 1-1 earlier.

Each team was looking forward to the possibility of playing for the regional title on home turf, as Gilpin Field will be the site of the next round of Division III tournament action.
