Annual Rogers City health run is Saturday

Race day registration for the 22nd annual Nautical Festival run/walk begins Saturday at 7:30 a.m. at the Lakeside Park pavilion. The mile fun run/walk will start at 8:45 a.m., while the 6K open run/walk gets under way at 9 a.m. in the area of North First Street.

Most of the 6K run will be on the Huron Sunrise Trail. From the start line, runners will pick up the trail near the Wastewater Treatment plant and make their way across the Trout River to Forest Avenue. From there they will turn east toward Lake Huron and eventually return to the trail in front of the DPW building and then back to the finish line. The Rogers City High School cross country teams have been running the event the last five years as a fund-raiser for their program.

Race registration for the mile run is $10, while sign-up for the 6K event costs $15. All paid runners will receive a T-shirt. Last year?s runners came from various locations, but the winners all had a Rogers City connection. The male 6K champion was Denny Paull of Cheboygan, formerly of Rogers City, while the female champion was Lauren Fairbanks, who was preparing to enter her senior year at RCHS.

The Rev. Bill Goldsborough, 49, of Rogers City (6:08) was first in the mile fun run in 2002. First among female participants in the mile was another incoming RCHS senior, Angie Asam (6:44). Race entry forms are available at Rogers City IGA, Presque Isle Newspapers, or by calling Charlie Fairbanks.
