City commissioner vacates seat; sewer project on schedule

City commissioner Stan Chaskey is moving out of the city limits of Onaway and will be vacating his seat on the city council, city manager Joe Hefele announced at Monday night?s city meeting. Hefele asked the commissioners to find a successor for Chaskey. Hefele gave his biweekly report to commissioners at the meeting.

ACCORDING TO HEFELE, Glawe Construction is on schedule with the treatment site of the sewer project. Two lagoons are under construction, along with the six sand filtration beds and berms between the three wetland sites. ?It no longer looks like a field. It looks like a treatment plant.? Hefele said.

Hefele reported he had some extra things done on Cedar Street, including undercutting on both sides of the trench to be able to get a base the full length of the road. There had been topsoil directly under the asphalt. Improvements were made on the storm sewers and catch basins in the same area which were in dire need of repair. These extras should come out of contingencies.

Hefele said, ?Overall, things are going well. I have been staying in constant contact with Chuck and Ron from Wilcox, and also have enjoyed talking to Mike Altobelli of Glawe.?
