Jessica Havel named Miss Onaway, 2003

From the opening number, through the talent presentations, to the evening gown and question session, the crowd waited in anticipation Friday to hear the final results of the Miss Onaway Pageant 2003. When the program concluded, Jessica Havel was cowned Miss Onaway 2003. She will reign over this weekends? festivities and will represent her community over the next year. The pageant began with contestants dancing to ?Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,? choreographed by Kymberli Wregglesworth.

Master of Ceremonies Penny James welcomed all in attendance and introduced the first of the evening?s special entertainment. Miss Onaway 2002, Sarah Lyon, sang to Michael Jackson?s ?The Way You Make Me Feel,? followed by Laurie and Thomas-Aaron Price singing a song they wrote. Then followed the talent portion of the contest.

HAVEL BEGAN the talent competition, performing the song ?Cowboy Take Me Away,? by the Dixie Chicks. She was followed by Lauren Hazlett performing a comedy skit she wrote herself. During her performance she would snort when laughing and the crowd roared. Hazlett had everyone in stitches. Sharina Splan was next, singing, ?You Open My Eyes,? which she wrote and helped compose. Sarah Heltsley danced to ?Live Your Dreams,? from the motion picture, ?Save the Last Dance.? Bethany Couture performed a standup comedy routine about her family life.

Amber Anderson recited an original poem she wrote. Playing the piano, Stephanie Porter performed ?Somewhere Out There,? from ?An American Tail,? wrapping up the talent portion of the pageant.

Splan received the honor of being Miss Congeniality. Evening gown winner was Havel. Hazlett won for talent and was second runner-up. Before announcing the first runner-ups James announced that Scott and Millie Baldwin donated $1,000 to the first runner-up. Those honors went to Porter.

When the moment came to announce Miss Onaway, James announced the Baldwins donated another $1,000, this time to Miss Onaway 2003. Jessica Havel, Miss Onaway 2003 said, ?I would like to thank everyone who helped me and supported me the whole time. I?m happy that I have this honor to represent my town.?
