Site preparation for hangar building approved

Trees have been removed from the newly-renovated Presque Isle County airport in Rogers City, but soon a $100,000 hangar will fill some of the open space in the southwest corner of the property. County commissioner Bob Schell, who serves on the airport committee, asked the county board last Friday to consider transferring $35,000 from the tax revolving fund to pay for hangar site preparation. Forthcoming money from the Elmer Radka estate would reimburse the fund as soon as it comes in. Airport committee members believe they need to act now to save money and time, so Schell brought the proposal before the commissioners.

?We would like to get in and get the concrete pads put in,? said Schell, ?so when they are there with the paving equipment, that we don?t rip up new paving and then have to hire somebody to come back.? Work on the taxiway near the expanded airport taxiway has been ongoing since runway paving was completed.

With the foundation in place, the rest of the building would be constructed when the estate monies are bestowed to the county. Radka, an avid pilot and aviation enthusiast, bequeathed the money for the construction of the hangar, which is to be dedicated to his wife Margaret.
