Work 95 percent finished on US-23 improvements

The contractor who has worked on the reconstruction of US-23 the past couple of months said, of the jobs they?ve completed over the last 28 years, he can?t remember being treated better than in Rogers City. ?The people were excellent,? said owner Ken Cordes of Cordes Excavating. ?There?s very few communities that we go in that we?ve been treated like we were in Rogers City. It was absolutely excellent.?

Cordes said his company had a good rapport with city officials and everyone associated with the project. Bradley Highway within the city limits is 95 percent complete, with another layer of asphalt needing to be laid by Bolen Asphalt, to complete. That won?t occur until the section of US-23 from M-65 to the southern edge of Rogers City is completed. Temporary lines have been painted on Bradley Highway until that occurs.

Finished a few days ahead of schedule was the Trout River bridge, which opened to traffic on both sides of US-23 on Tuesday, Cordes said. Safety-wise, Cordes was satisfied with the way things went. There was one accident, which he witnessed, but from a construction standpoint, the project went well. Cordes Excavating was the low bidder for the trail extension project to Hoeft State Park, but hasn?t picked a starting date as of yet.

He believe it?ll be around Labor Day, so there will be another dose of Rogers City hospitality to experience in the fall.
