Amy Rabeau new principal at St. Ignatius

Amy Rabeau assumed duties August 1 as St. Ignatius Catholic School principal and is busily getting ready for the start of a new school year. Rabeau, originally from Alpena, is the daughter Bob and Phyllis Corwin and moved to Rogers City when she married Darin Rabeau and he accepted a position with the Presque Isle County Sheriff?s Department. The Rabeaus are the parents of Kayla, three, and Karissa, one year of age. Amy is a graduate of Alpena High School and went on to Central Michigan University where she received a bachelor of arts degree in music education. She received her Master?s degree in 2001 from Mary Grove College in the Art of Teaching.

She was a permanent substitute in Onaway before accepting a position at St. Ignatius in 1999, where she developed the music program as well as taught third grade for the past four years. Not only will she serve as St. Ignatius principal, but will serve as fourth grade language arts teacher and will direct and teach the music program. As principal, Rabeau succeeds Meg Romel, who stepped down because of ill health.

?I SEE NO CHANGES in the immediate future,? Amy said, adjusting some of the items on her desk in her new office. ?This is a wonderful place for children to grow and learn,? she said expanding her arms with a great big smile. Amy?s philosophy is loving and simple. ?If you demand the very best out of children, they come through ?shining,? ? as is evidenced in the wonderful musical programs Rabeau has been responsible for the past four years.

Will she have anything new in the music department? ?There will be some special moments in store for everyone,? Amy said in the way of music performances, ?but it?ll be a secret until the night of the performance!?

Rabeau brings with her an infectious enthusiasm that resounds with her work ethics. ?I really love this school. This was just a natural progression for me to take this position.?

Students will greet their new principal Tuesday, August 26 when the school year begins for all Rogers City area students.
