Great lakes Lore Maritime Museum to host first ‘gathering’ in Rogers City

The Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum recently opened its doors in Rogers City on Third Street next to the Lighthouse Restaurant, and is busy building up its membership. The museum was formerly located in the Thumb area in Sebewaing. Friday will be the kickoff of the museum?s annual ?Gathering? at the Lighthouse Restaurant banquet room at 7 p.m.

Presenter Richard DeMara, an iron worker will feature a slide show and narration on the building of the Mackinaw Bridge and entertainment will be provided by the ?Nauticals? barbershop quartet. Admission is $5 for members of the Museum. Saturday, the Lore will conduct its 13th annual ?Gathering? luncheon that will feature the induction of 27 new retirees into the Lore Museum.

The guest speaker Saturday will be the Rev. Ray McGee, a motivational speaker whose uncle sailed. Entertainment will again be provided by The Nauticals. The Lore has inducted more than 260 sailors from all over the United States and Canada and has as its motto, ?Honoring Those Who Served.? The luncheon portion of the weekend celebration is open to the public and especially those who have sailed on the Great Lakes. The program will begin at 11 a.m. in the St. Ignatius gym located at 545 S. Third Street in Rogers City.
