Millersburg festivities include parade, games, displays, demo derby

Are you wondering what to do this weekend? Try the annual Labor Day weekend celebration in Millersburg. The festivities kick off Friday with a historical display at the train depot, including a bake sale and white elephant sale this year. A mini arcade is planned at the village office after 5 p.m. The singspiration at the Methodist Church commences at 7 p.m.

FESTIVITIES CONTINUE Saturday featuring a whole day of events and displays. The day starts early with the 5K run/walk at 8:30 a.m. The historical display at the train depot will take place all day along with the flea/craft show and the mini arcade. How about trying your hand at the skeet and muzzleloader shoot beginning at 9 a.m.? At noon, the Grand Parade, with its theme of ?The Working World,? will work its way long Main Street with floats representing area businesses and organizations. Kids? games start at 1 p.m. in the school yard, followed by the Baptist basketball tournament starting 2 p.m. at the Ocqueoc Baptist Church.

The canoe race is next on the agenda. Lineup is 2:30 p.m. at the Kel

ly Drive bridge with the race starting at 3 p.m. A $100 prize will be awarded to the first canoe to reach Main Street bridge. Following the canoe race will be the powderpuff paddleboat race with a start time of 4 p.m. Next is the kids? river raft parade with decorated rafts, tubes and small boats. The duck race is next at 6 p.m. Ducks can be picked up at Village Mini Mart.

THE DEMOLITION DERBY is the main attraction Sunday it. The derby starts at 2 p.m. and attracts drivers from all over northern Michigan. The competition is intense. The Fire Association truck raffle will be drawn during the derby intermission.

Finishing out the weekend is the honored citizen tea at the school gym at 2 p.m. This year?s honored citizen is Larry Dittmar.
