UPDATED SATURDAY: Hurons, Vikings win football openers

Both Rogers City and Posen were victorious as the high school football season got underway Friday.

The Hurons used a big second half to beat Onaway 38-12, while Posen rolled up 311 yards of offense in a 28-14 win over Cedarville.

For Posen, coach Glenn Budnick’s team celebrated its 13th straight regular season win as Ron Kroll rushed for 90 yards on 19 carries. Josh Krajniak added 76 yards on 14 carries for the Vikings.

In Onaway, Huron sophomore Cody Wenzel caught a TD pass from Tim Cercone with 1:03 left in the second quarter and ran back an intercepted pass 60 yards for another score on Onaway’s first drive of the second half. That put the Hurons up 24-0.

Rogers City hosts Boyne City while Posen hosts DeTour.
