FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL 9/12: RC wins 40-0

Rogers City took advantage of every Alcona turnover in a 40-0 pasting of the Tigers Friday (9/12) at Gilpin Field. Senior fullback Judd Vekaryasz, playing in his first game of the season after coming off the injured list, carried in with 8:46 to go in the first quarter to open the scoring. The TD run came at the end of the game’s opening drive, highlighted by strong offensive line blocking, which cleared holes for the Huron runners Dylan Centala, Dustin Streich, Tyler Schuiteman, and Justin Kelley. Kelley ran in the conversion.

Kyle Greene scooped up a Tiger fumble and rambled 28 yards for the second score. He caught a pass from senior QB Tim Cercone to make it 16-0 in the early going.

In the second quarter, the Hurons made good on a fourth-and-three at the TIger 41, and seven plays later Centala scored from the one. Cercone again hooked up with Greene for the two-pointer and the Hurons led 24-0 with 10:37 left in the second quarter.

Following a 57-yard Alcona punt, deep in their own end, Cercone hit sophomore end Cody Wenzel in stride for a 62-yard TD pass. A Cercone-to Kelley pass made it 32-0 at halftime.

A quick score in the third quarter brought out the running clock. Cercone, rushed out of the pocket, scrambled to his left, set up, and found Wenzel in the end zone for the final Huron TD. A pass to Greene gave the Hurons the final margin, 40-0, to move their record to 2-1
