Owners plan going out of business sale at RC IGA

Citing the trend for consumers to shop superstores, the Rogers City IGA announced plans to close. Tab and Peri Coseo, owners of the grocery store, told department heads Tuesday of plans to go out of business, beginning with a 20 percent off sale and reduced hours of operation starting today (Thursday). The Coseos obtained a going out of business license from the city, good for 30 days. The license can be renewed for two more 30-day terms.

?The hardest thing I ever had to do was to tell my kids,? Tab said Tuesday. He was to assume the presidency of the Rogers City Kiwanis Club in October, but had to resign, due to the uncertainty of his family?s situation.

The couple purchased the grocery operation from Don and Lou Hampton in 2000. The Hamptons moved their store operations in 1977 from what is now the Rogers City branch of the Presque Isle District Library to its present home in the Mariner?s Mall.

?Due to the new trend of superstore shopping, our business has suffered sale losses of 15 percent in the past year, making it impossible to continue store operations,? Coseo said.

The space is rented from a Farmington Hills corporation, but the Coseos will offer the equipment for sale.
