Ready, aim, head for Posen and Potato Festival

Three big days of fun and events are planned for the 52nd annual Posen Potato Festival beginning Friday night with a polka dance with John Stevens and Double Shot as well as the TenBusch Brothers from 7 p.m. until 1 a.m. at the Polka Pavilion. The dance events cost $6 but people wanting to hear bands at both the polka pavilion and the country and western pavilion Saturday night will be able to purchase a combination wristband for $10 for both events.

?That?s the first time we?ve offered this kind of deal,? said Posen Chamber of Commerce member Alletta Misiak. ?We?ll see how it works out.? The amusement park setup will open at 6 p.m. Friday to set the scene for a carnival atmosphere. Misiak said Posen is all ready and Friday during the day is marked for all the last minute details to be worked out, with high school students lending a hand where needed.

?We?re still looking for potato dish displays,? Misiak said. ?Registration is set for Saturday for that and also local gardeners and farmers can get in on the potato display…that?s how we select our ?potato king? if we can get one!?

The weather is supposed to provide a beautiful weekend with moderate temperatures. (Check the AccuWeather site at the top of page one on website for th

e latest) What could be better than that? Saturday only there will be the 11th annual Arts and Crafts Show from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. with a $1 admission fee at Posen High School.

Chamber president Randy Idalski said the entire month of August was spent getting things done for the festival. ?We are where we want to be right now,? Idalski said. ?With the improvements to downtown Posen this year, it should look a lot better. We have sidewalks and the water project is just about finished.? The grand festival parade is slated for Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with parade marshals Burke and Laurie Wozniak waving to the crowds.

?I?m ready!? Idalski said. ?We?re all puffed up and ready for the bands, the crowds and for everybody to come and have a good party!?
