Several Hurons named to all conference

Three Hurons were named to the Straits Area Conference all conference football squad. Tim Cercone was selected as the all conference quarterback. Kyle Greene and Cody Wenzel were named as the all-conference receivers.

Greene was named the most valuable player on offense in the conference and was named to the defensive all-conference squad as linebacker and punter.

Receiving honorable mention recognition were Dustin Streich at linebacker, Randy Brege at defensive line, and Cercone and Wenzel as defensive backs.

Tim Cercone came close in nine games to surpassing the passing records Tyler Hilla established in 11 games during the 2001 season. Tim attempted 254 passes and completed 117 for 1,901 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 13 two-point conversions. Tyler attempted 265 passes and completed 120 for 1

,957 yards and 20 touchdown passes.

Kyle Greene rewrote RCHS receiving records. His 62 receptions in nine games eclipse David Quaine?s 47 catches in 11 games in 2001. Greene?s career reception total of 95 surpasses the old mark of 83 receptions held by Eric Beilas over a three-year period from 1989-1991. Kyle?s 1,019 receiving yards surpasses the 895 yards David Quaine garnered in the 2001 season.

Cody Wenzel, the ?super sophomore,? had the greatest season of any sophomore Coach Brietzke has ever coached. Cody caught 26 passes good for 583 yards and 11 touchdowns. Cody also caught five two-point conversion passes.

Each of these young men had a tremendous season and is reaping the rewards for his success. We take our hats off to each of them.
