Spirit week celebrated at OHS for homecoming

Onaway High School?s homecoming was observed with spirit week which started Monday with Costume Day and will be topped off with Red and White Day today, along with this evening?s football game and dance. ?Breakfast Cereals? is the theme for homecoming this year, with construction of floats taking place at various locations around the community. Tuesday brought students to school sporting injuries, Some students came to school in wheelchairs while others wore braces on their extremityies. Wednesday, students were dressed as hippies from the 1970s with their peace signs, bell-bottom jeans and tie-dyed T-shirts.

?Career Day? was Thursday, so students dressed as what they want to be in the future. The school will be filled with ?Red and White? students and staff today. Cheerleaders are hosting a pep assembly this afternoon to promote school spirit in the football game, followed by a parade at 3:45 p.m. from the courthouse to Second Street. Laura Reid is this year?s grand marshal. She was nominated by the students for all the time she devotes to supporting them. Reid has mended uniforms for the athletes for many years and always finds time to come out to cheer for the teams.

The Cardinal football team will host Central Lake in the homecoming game which will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the crowning of the queen during halftime. Also during half-time the student council will present grand marshal Laura Reid with a plaque.

The homecoming dance will immediately follow the game with the ceremony, including the crowning of the king, beginning approximately at 10:30 p.m. with the dance ending at midnight.
