Chamber sponsors ?Light Up The City? November 26

The Rogers City Chamber of Commerce will initiate the holiday season November 26, the evening before Thanksgiving, with the first downtown ?Light Up The City? festivities. The Optimist Club?s ?Tree Lighting Ceremony? will kick off the event at Westminster Park at 7 p.m. with choral entertainment and the festive atmosphere of twinkling Christmas tree lights. Folks are encouraged to stroll down the streets and view the decorations that will be on display at participating local shops and businesses.

As a special treat for those visiting the downtown area, selected businesses will remain open until 8 p.m. with special holiday incentives. Old-time crafters will demonstrate their talents in making handmade crafts in the Radke Building on Third Street across from the Mariners Mall.

VISITORS WILL see how crafters use authentic antique spinning wheels to turn wool into yarn, and then see their talents first hand as they use the yarn to knit beautiful handmade crafts. Folks will see how to make fresh pine boughs into roping to decorate their home for the holidays. A variety of musical entertainment including the Rogers City Voices of Harmony will entertain visitors at the Radke Building from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The ?Light Up The City? celebration will stress the theme, ?It Pays To Shop Locally? with coupons available elsewhere in the Advance for special holiday offers at local businesses. Residents along with their families are encouraged to attend the downtown Rogers City celebration.
