Back to jail for man accused of selling marijuana from pizza establishment

The 20-year-old Rogers City man accused of selling marijuana with pizzas at a local pizza establishment was remanded to the Presque Isle County Sheriff?s Department this week after he violated a condition of his bond.

Lance Carl Wenzel, 20, appeared with court-appointed attorney Ron Bayot from the Office of Public Advocacy Monday morning in 53rd Circuit Court for his arraignment on three charges of controlled substance delivery/manufacture marijuana.

Wenzel was arrested November 12 after being suspected of selling marijuana while working at Little Caesar?s.

ACCORDING TO investigators from the Huron Undercover Narcotics Team, for a little extra money, some customers could order ?extra toppings,? not those typical toppings associated with a pizza.

A HUNT press released stated that a quantity of marijuana, small hand scale and a sum of cash were seized. The employer had no involvement or knowledge of the alleged activity, according to investigators.

Bayot told Circuit Judge Scott Pavlich that Wenzel would be standing mute on the charges, and requested bond of 10 percent of $10,000 be continued.

Prosecutor Don McLennan presented an incident report from the sheriff?s department which indicated Wenzel was found ?highly intoxicated? December 20 and was given his fifth minor in possession in citation.

Deputies administered a PBT test on Wenzel, which read .098.

McLennan asked Judge Pavlich to revoke bond.

Bayot was not aware of the development and asked for time to talk to his client.

Later, Bayot stood firm, saying his client was given a citation and not charged, so again he asked if bond could be continued.

Instead of revoking bond, Pavlich amended bond from 10 percent of $10,000 to $10,000 cash.

Following the hearing, Wenzel was taken into custody by a sheriff?s deputy.

Delivery of marijuana is a felony, punishable by up to four years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine
