Posen varsity and JV both take 30-plus point wins

The Posen basketball players (2-2, 2-1) came back with a vengeance in their final game of 2003. To use a Christmas term, they toyed with Hillman, 77-34 last Friday.

There was some bad news out of Viking camp as point guard Luke Hentkowski could be gone for more than a month from the starting lineup.

During the Hillman game, while throwing a pass, he stepped on the leg of a Hillman player and severely sprained his ankle. The good news is that it?s not fractured but the senior could miss three to four weeks or more.

Coach Ron Misiak said he?ll be looking to seniors Noah Schellie and Tom Woloszyk to keep the Vikings rolling into the new year.

TO KEEP an edge on opponents, Misiak said he?ll conduct practices through the Christmas break. The only days he has not scheduled a practice are Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

In 2004, the Vikings are going to need a little more luck, and some solid second half play, if they want to advance deep in the tournament.

The two losses this month featured second half collapses, the first against a solid Cedarville team, with the other against conference foe Mio.

Posen had another sizable lead at

halftime last Friday against Hillman, and Misiak didn?t believe anything needed to be said in the locker room.

?THE MESSAGE was written on their faces,? Misiak said. The message said,?This is not going to happen to us again.?

Posen played top notch defense, and the Vikings? intensity kept the host Tigers from converting simple passes across center court.

Junior Aaron Hincka scored a game-high 21 points and brought down 23 rebounds. Junior Matt Ponik scored 17, while senior Ron Kroll had 13.

The JV won its final contest of 2003, blowing the doors off Hillman, 67-37. Brian Szczerowski had a game-high 20 points.

The next scheduled action is Tuesday, January 6 at home against Atlanta. The Huskie varsity is 3-0 in the NSL, so it should be a good matchup.<
