PHS inducts new National Honor Society members

Posen High School conducted its 33rd annual National Honor Society Initiation Ceremony January 7, with six new members initiated.

Invited to join were senior Ronald Kroll, the brother of Jacob and Tammy Kroll; junior Kendra Krajniak, the daughter of Gary and Lois Krajniak; and sophomores Rachael Beach, the daughter of Curtis and Tony Beach; Emily Perrault, the daughter of Edward and Denise Perrault; Amanda Pieczynski, the daughter of Adam Pieczynski and Lori Barton; and Margaret Schmitz, the daughter of Jeffrey and Kate Bruski. The six were initiated into the nation?s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. Those chosen for induction must demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

Eight NHS members were present at the ceremony to speak on the various areas of excellence. NHS President Michelle Bednarski gave the welcome and introduction. Shannon Ciarkowski spoke of ?selection? and ?knowledge,? saying, ?Only those who excel in leadership, scholarship, character, service, knowledge, and purpose are chosen to become members.? ON THE topic of ?knowledge,? Ciarkowski said, ?It is the key to the National Honor Society.?

Joshua Krajniak addressed the ?purpose,? saying, ?It is to promote high school academic standards.? Dorothy Romel handled ?character? w

hen she said, ?We must uphold and demonstrate honesty, ability, and self control.? Matthew Ponik said, ?Leadership means a real leader gets others to strive to attain their goals.?

Curtis Beach addressed ?scholarship? when he said, ?A NHS member must have a 3.0 grade point average or better and must display their abilities.? Adam Zydbel wound up the program saying, ?Service is through family and friends to the community with voluntary contributions.? PHS Principal Cliff Kelly addressed those gathered, saying, ?This is a tribute to your scholastic achievement,? before he administered the pledge to the initiates.

Advisor Denise Perrault issued the membership pins and certificates to each new member. Superintendent Dennis Stratton concluded the ceremony by thanking everyone for attending. ?I?d like to pay tribute to those who do well academically,? Stratton said. ?They are well-rounded people, and their efforts are appreciated by the board of education, the teachers and parents.? The Maxine Parson Chapter of the National Honor Society council members include Michael Grulke, Patrick Kowalski, Mary Rubeo, and Clifford Kelly.
