Posen basketball teams looks for season sweep of Hillman

Posen will look to bring out the brooms when the Vikings take on Hillman tomorrow evening in the Posen High School gym. The Tigers (2-7) haven?t fared all that well this season and lost to the Vikings December 19 by 43 points. Viking coach Ron Misiak was in Hillman Tuesday to scout Hale and when he left in the third quarter, Hillman trailed by 36.

If the Vikings (6-2 overall, 6-1 NSL) played the way they did last week with wins at Mio and Au Gres, 75-40, they shouldn?t have too much trouble sweeping the Tigers. Following Friday?s game, Posen travels to De Tour Tuesday. Both Mio and Posen remain in a tie for first in the North Star League standings.

In the win against Au Gres, junior forward Matt Ponik paced the offense with 21 points, while senior forward Russ Kamyszek and junior center Aaron Hincka each scored 14 points. The Wolverines got off to a hot start, hitting nearly everything they put up to build a 9-2 lead. The long bus ride to Au Gres can take something out of players, but the Vikings pulled it together and outscored the home team 17-2 the rest of the quarter.

The second quarter was fairly even, and when the halftime break started the score was 38-21. Misiak decided to switch defenses to start the third quarter and went to a full court press/zone trap. Au Gres fell apart and the Vikes wiped the floor with the Wolverines the rest of the way. ?It really gave them problems,? Misiak said of the defense. The score at the end of three was 52-27. The junior varsity (4-4) lost to Au Gres, 40-20.
