Viking volleyball team tops Atlanta

Posen had one of its most uplifting wins of the season Monday when the Vikings defeated Atlanta. After losses last week against Mio and Hillman, it couldn?t have come at a better time.

On the home floor, the Vikings (4-2 overall, 3-2 North Star League) took the first game 15-7, and were down 9-4 in the second game, when Dorothy Romel stepped to the serving line, and with the help of her teammates, finished off the Huskies with 11 straight points. The final was 15-9. ?The girls said after the match, ?That?s the way we should be playing all of our games,? ? coach Mandee Hincka said. The Huskies proved to be elusive last season, winning both matches in the regular season, and knocking off Posen at districts.

Katie Lewandowski had seven spikes and four kills against the Huskies, while Shannon Ciarkowski and Courtney Romel each had four assists. The match at Hillman started well, with a 15-7 win in game one, but the next two games went

to the host Tigers, 15-12 and 15-8.

Jackie Szczerowski had two blocks, Ciarkowski five spikes and seven kills, while Courtney Romel had six assists. The junior varsity remains undefeated in North Star League action with a 6-0 mark after wins over Atlanta and Hillman. The scores against Atlanta were 15-2 and 15-5. Mary Calhoun had four assists, one ace, two kills, one dig, and three points. Roxann Hincka assisted on six plays, had four kills, one dig and two points. Emily Perrault had four assists, two aces, one kill, and four points, while Michelle Mulka had four assists, one ace, one kill, and two points.

In the win against Hillman, the scores were 15-11 and 15-9. Meranda Mulka served four points, assisted on two plays, and had one kill. Jenny Ciarkowski had three points, three assists, and five assists. Perrault had five assists. Posen is at Au Gres tonight and back home Monday against Fairview.
