Twenty seniors will graduate with honors

The Onaway High School Class of 2004 has 20 students graduating with honors. Valedictorian is Michelle Ellenberger with a grade point average of 3.993. Salutatorian is Thomas Aaron Price with a 3.971 G.P.A., and Honor Student Jessica Havel has earned a grade point average of 3.932 going into the final semester of the year. Michelle Ellenberger is the daughter of Robert and Norma Ellenberger of Onaway.

Michelle has participated in basketball, volleyball, and softball all four years of her high school career. She was a member of the homecoming court during her freshman year and was elected Snowcoming queen during her junior year. She also has participated in drama club and student council as well as becoming a member of the National Honor Society during her junior year. Michelle participated in the school-to-work program at Moran Iron Works and plans on attending Michigan Technological University after graduation to earn a degree in engineering.

Thomas-Aaron Price is the son of John K. And Laurie J. Price. Thomas-Aaron spent his freshman year in Hillman participating in band, choir, student council and the Knowledge Bowl. He also was a keyboardist for his local church and assisted with the church ministry at an area nursing home in the Teens for Christ program. Since moving to Onaway, Thomas-Aaron has been active in the band, jazz band, and choir programs and served as the drum major for the marching band in his senior year. In his sophomore year, Thomas-Aaron created the Heart Chasers Ministry and participated in the Praise Team at the Joy Community Church in Onaway for the next three years.

Thomas-Aaron also has been involved in drama, track, yearbook committee, and the National Honor Society, as well as serving as the co-manager of the football team during his senior year. After graduation he plans to attend Michigan State University?s School of Music program to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree in Instrumental and Vocal Music Education.

Jessica Marie Havel is the daughter of Lisa Schleben and Joseph Havel. Jessica participated in drama and track all four years of high school and played volleyball during her freshman year, then took volleyball stats the remaining years of high school. She also was involved in cross-country, art club, Knowledge Bowl, and served as the National Honor Society president her senior year. Jessica was crowned Miss Onaway in 2003 and volunteered at VFW Post 5857. After graduation, Jessica plans to attend North Central Michigan College for two years before transferring to Michigan State University to major in astrophysics and minor in mathematics.

Maggie Coats, 3.859, is the daughter of Kristin and David Coats. Maggie has participated in the ski club, drama club, National Honor Society, and student council. During her sophomore year, Maggie was a part of the Winter Homecoming Court and became a teacher?s assistant. As a junior, Maggie became a student representative for the school board and continued participating through her senior year as well as tutoring students from kindergarten through 12 and at the Presque Isle Academy. After high school, Maggie plans to attend Eastern Michigan University as to study ?anything and everything.?

Megan Michiels, 3.819, is the daughter of Tim and Dorothy Michiels. Megan has participated in the Onaway 4-H club as well as the Onaway Equestrian Team. As a sophomore she was a member of the Homecoming Court, participated in Natural Helpers, and became a statistics recorder for the softball team. In her junior year, Megan was elected to the National Honor Society and served as student council representative before being elected vice president during her senior year. She also was involved in the Outdoor Recreation Club, the Knowledge Bowl, and was a tutor as well as an office and teacher?s aide. Next fall, Megan plans on attending Oakland University to earn a doctorate degree in Physical Therapy.

Taylor William Beswick, 3.760, is the son of Bill and Melody Beswick of Millersburg. Taylor participated in football and baseball all four years of high school and in basketball for three years. He was student council president his freshman year and a member of the homecoming and Snowcoming courts the same year. As a sophomore, Taylor became student council vice president and became a member of the student advisory board. Junior year, Taylor was inducted into the National Honor Society and participated in the Knowledge Bowl as well as becoming a teacher?s aide and a gym assistant. After graduation, Taylor plans to attend Alpena Community College and major in concrete technology.

Tareva Marvin, 3.747, is the daughter of Scott and Denise Marvin of Millersburg. Tareva became a member of the National Honor Society during her junior year and was also involved in Natural Helpers. Tareva also served as a mentor and a teacher?s assistant. Tareva plans on attaining a degree in mathematical education through either Central Michigan University or Grand Valley State University.

Amanda Kay Fagel, 3.708, is the daughter of Gary and Elizabeth Fagel. Amanda has participated in band and pep band all four years of her high school career as well as jazz band during her senior year. Amanda also served as a basketball manager for two years and as a teacher?s assistant for two years. Amanda plans on majoring in secondary education – mathematics at Central Michigan University in the fall.

Jenna Sheptock, 3.584, is the daughter of Paul Sheptock and Lynn Sobeck. Jenna participated in basketball and softball all four years of high school. As a freshman, Jenna was a member of the homecoming court and the student council as treasurer through her sophomore year. During her sophomore year, Jenna played volleyball and participated in drama as well as the Natural Helpers. During her junior and senior years, Jenna became a member of the National Honor Society, a mentor, and was a teacher?s aide, as well as serving on the yearbook and prom committees. Jenna will be shipping out on September 1 for the United States Air Force basic training camp.

Katie Sue Webster, 3.568, is the daughter of David and Linda Webster. Katie was active in student council for all four years of her high school career as well as three years in basketball and two in volleyball. As a sophomore, Katie first participated in the drama club, which she continued through her senior year. Katie also was a teacher?s assistant for her junior and senior years. Katie would like to pursue a career in the medical field through Grand Valley State University next fall.

Jamie Rae Grainger, 3.488, is the daughter of Jim and Sally Grainger. Jamie played volleyball all four years of high school and served as the volleyball coach for the junior high during her senior year. She was also a varsity football manager for all four years and played basketball and softball for three years. Jamie was also involved in drama club, the National Honor Society, and served as a teacher?s assistant. Jamie plans to attend Grand Rapids Community College for her associate degree in Marketing before working toward a license as a real estate agent or broker.

Joshua Allan Coggins, 3.462, is the son of Chip and Caroline Stead, and Allan Coggins. Josh played basketball during his freshman and sophomore years and participated in band and pep band throughout his high school career. As a junior, Josh became a member of the National Honor Society. After high school, Josh plans on furthering his skills as a musician and also achieving a double major in computer programming and web design from Baker College of Owosso.

Meghan Mae Wright, 3.395, is the daughter of Steve and Claudia Wright. During her freshman year, Meghan played basketball and softball, was involved in student council as a class officer, and was a member of the homecoming court. Sophomore year, Meghan was captain of the basketball team and played both junior varsity and varsity softball. She was also vice president of her class for student council and served on the yearbook staff. During her junior year, Meghan became a teacher?s assistant and a journalism editor along with continuing as the vice president for student council and playing basketball and softball. Senior year, Meghan became class president and was recently voted Snowcoming Queen 2004. She also served on the yearbook staff and worked in the office. Meghan will be attending Wayne State University to become a pharmaceutical sales representative with a major in business and a minor in marketing.

Lindsey Herremans, 3.330, is the daughter of Tom and Deidre Herremans. Lindsey attended Ravenna High School during her freshman year and played softball, volleyball, was a 4-H member, and was active in the Future Farmers of America program. In Onaway, Lindsey continued playing softball and volleyball for the next three years and was also an office worker and a member of the National Honor Society. As a senior, Lindsey was a member of the Homecoming court and was active in vocational education. Lindsey plans to attend Spring Arbor University this fall, majoring in Elementary Education and minoring in English.

Jessika Gelo, 3.321, was a cheerleader during her freshman year and also worked at Miller?s Hill Top. Jessika also worked at Heart & Soul, Adopt a Highway, M&K Food Enterprise and the HUB. As a junior, Jessika became a member of the National Honor Society and volunteered for the Red Cross blood drive during her senior year. Jessika plans on going to trade school after graduation to become a chef.

Logan Ross Schaedig, 3.278, is the son of Penny James and Kenneth Schaedig. During his freshman year, Logan played basketball and football. As a sophomore he continued playing basketball and also became involved with the Jazz band. During his junior and senior year, Logan maintained a job outside of school and also became dually enrolled at North Central Michigan College. Logan was also involved in band, pep band, art club, and was an office worker and teacher?s assistant. After graduation, Logan plans on going to Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.

Samantha Lynn Tignanelli, 3.256, is the daughter of Frank and Paula Tignanelli. Samantha was involved in volleyball and softball during all four years of her high school career. As a freshman, Samantha was a member of the homecoming court and became a cheerleader during her sophomore year. As a junior, Samantha was inducted into the National Honor Society and was also a teacher?s assistant through her senior year. After high school, Samantha would like to attend a college in California to pursue a career in nursing.

Warren Hopkins, 3.226, is the son of Marlene and Harry Hopkins. Warren participated in the ski club all four years of high school and was also a member of the varsity football team during his junior and senior years. Warren plans on attending a 4-year university for au

to design and computer graphics. Afterwards, he hopes to have a good paying job.

Jessica Murphy, 3.162, is the daughter of John and Michelle Murphy. Jessica was involved in dance throughout high school including ballet, pointe, jazz, and modern dance. She was also a cheerleader and Long Rider member for 4-H throughout high school as well as being involved in marching, pep, and symphonic band. Jessica was also involved in youth group and became a member of the National Honor Society during her junior year. Jessica plans to attend either Hope College or Northwestern University to major in dance and choreography.

Robin Hazelett, 3.004, is the daughter of Rosemary and Lin Hazelett of Millersburg. Robin was a Natural Helper during all four years of high school, was involved in 4-H, and was a cheerleader and a student mentor. As a senior, Robin was a member of the Queen?s court and will possibly be involved in track this spring. Robin plans to enroll at North Central Michigan College for a year before transferring to Central Michigan University to complete her academic career. She would like to major in Psychology and have a minor in fitness.
