Cercone and Krueger named top honor RCHS students for 2004

Topping the class of 2004 is Tim Cercone with a nothing less-than-perfect 4.00 grade point average. Rogers City High School principal James Connell has announced Cercone as valedictorian. Salutatorian honors go to Katie Krueger with her 3.97 GPA. There will be 30 honor students out of a graduating class of 65 students who will receive diplomas June 6 at 2:30 p.m. in the Rogers City High School gym. Tim Cercone is the son of Joe and Sally Cercone. Tim is the National Honor Society president.

Cercone has participated in three sports including football, where he was the quarterback and captain; basketball, playing forward, guard and was the captain; and baseball, as the catcher. Following graduation, Cercone will attend Michigan Technological University in Houghton, where he will major in engineering.

Katie Krueger is the daughter of Eugene and Barbara Krueger. Katie is a member of the National Honor Society and Natural Helpers. She is the RCHS yearbook editor and participates in softball. Katie will be attending Michigan State University to pursue a degree in law.

Kari Elizabeth Rhode, 3.94, is the daughter of Dennis and Susan Rhode. Kari is a three-year member of the National Honor Society and spent four years in Natural Helpers. She also participated in the Key Club for one year and Educational Talent Search four years. Kari has been on the RCHS bowling team for two years. She will be attending Northern Michigan University to pursue a degree in cytotechnology.

Rachel Ryan, 3.91, is the daughter of Dr. James and Anne Ryan. Rachel has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past three years and was the offensive stats keeper for varsity football for four years. Rachel participated in cross country three years and is a cadet kindergarten teacher. Her future will include attending Ferris State University where she will pursue a career in the dental field.

Miranda Nowak, 3.88, is the daughter of Mary Nowak and the late John Nowak. Miranda is a member of the National Honor Society, Natural Helpers, the Bigs and Littles, the Northern Michigan Youth Advisory Council and Student Council. She also is the assistant editor for the RCHS yearbook and has participated with the Ski Club. Miranda will be attending Ferris State University where she plans to major in applied forensic biology and minor in visual design and web media.

Aaron Smuda, 3.88, is the son of Thomas and Diane Smuda. Aaron participated in Knowledge Bowl and ran cross country all four years of his high school career. He also participated in track and basketball. Following graduation he will attend Bowling Green State University to study engineering.

Ying Xiong, 3.87, is the son of Youa and Pang Xiong. Ying is a member of the National Honor Society, the Key Club, Natural Helpers, The Bigs and Littles, the Debate Team, and serves as a Chat Club helper. Ying also participates in soccer and vocal music. Ying will be attending Eastern Michigan University where he will pursue a master?s degree in business administration.

Richard Adams, 3.70, is the son of Keith and Lyndi Adams. Richard has participated in golf, bowling and Knowledge Bowl during his high school career. Following graduation, Richard will be attending Michigan State University to further his education.

Kendra Beebe, 3.68, is the daughter of Ken and Patricia Beebe. Kendra is a member of the National Honor Society, the Key Club, Natural Helpers, the Bigs and Littles mentoring, and the Drama Club. She also is the Ski Club president. Kendra will attend Grand Valley State University where she will major in psychology.

Adam Brege, 3.62, is the son of Richard and Rita Brege. Adam is Class president and treasurer of the National Honor Society and Key Club. Adam plans to attend Alpena Community College for his first two years before transferring to Central Michigan University where he will study to become a physician?s assistant specializing in pediatrics or asthma.

Audrey Patterson, 3.61, is the daughter of Robin Patterson. Audrey has been a member of the Bigs and Littles and participated in Knowledge Bowl. Audrey?s future plans include moving to California where she plans to attend college in San Diego to become a psychologist.

Steven Altman, 3.60, is the son of Carl and Bonnie Altman. Steven is a member of the National Honor Society, the Key Club, the Drama Club, Natural Helpers, and the Bigs and Littles mentoring. He also has participated in the Knowledge Bowl, the Ski Club, his church youth group, Educational Talent Search, and Yellow Ribbon. Following graduation, Steven will attend either Alpena Community College or Central Michigan University to study English education.

Kristina Viegelahn, 3.54, is the daughter of Mark and Roberta Viegelahn. Kristina is the Key Club historian, is the class vice president, and the photo and Static School Newspaper editor in journalism. She is a tutor, runs cross country and track, and is dual enrolled for 24 credits. Kristina will attend with Central Michigan University or Western Michigan University where she will major in pre-medicine. Kristine aspires to become an emergency room physician.

Annelise Gray, 3.54, is the daughter of Gerald and Kathy Gray. Annelise is a member of the Drama Club, mentoring, and performs tutoring. She has been a six-year member of Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council and a member of Natural Helpers and Yellow Ribbon. Annelise plans to attend Grand Valley State University Honors College where she will study to become a secondary education teacher with an emphasis on British literature.

Ashley Vogelheim, 3.52, is the daughter of Andy and Rose Vogelheim. Ashley is a member of the National Honor Society, has helped out with the cancer ?Relay For Life? four years, and is involved with the Bigs and Littles. Ashley is listed in ?Who?s Who In American High School Students,? and spent two years participating in softball, cross country and volleyball. Following graduation, Ashley will attend Northwood University in Midland where she plans to obtain a master?s degree in marketing and management.

Christine Belusar, 3.50, is the daughter of David and Carol Belusar. Christine is a member of the National Honor Society, Natural Helpers, Key Club, the Bigs and Littles, and the Chat Club. She also is a member of Voices In Harmony and is the reigning Miss Rogers City. Christine will attend Lake Superior State University where she will study to become an elementary school teacher.

Heidi Brege, 3.48, is the daughter of Mark and JoAnn Zinke. Heidi is a member of Natural Helpers, the Bigs and Littles, Ski Club, and the Key Club. She has participated in the Knowledge Bowl, cheerleading, vocal music and track. Heidi plans to attend Alpena Community College for two years before moving to California to pursue employment in the human services field.

Jason Belusar, 3.42, is the son of Dennis and Terri Belusar. Jason is a member of the National Honor Society and has participated on the high school golf team. Jason will attend Lake Superior State University in the fall.

Megan Brietzke, 3.42, is the daughter of Bill and Gwen Brietzke. Megan is a member of the National Honor Society and volunteers for the Rogers City Area Senior Center. Megan participated in volleyball for three years and has studied dance for 13 years. She has participated as an altar server at St. Ignatius Church. Megan will attend Alpena Community College where she will pursue a degree in nursing.

Jonathan Konieczny, 3.28, is the son of Keith and Betty Konieczny. Jonathan is an avid athlete participating in both football and baseball. Jonathan also employed part time during his high school career. Jonathan plans to attend Lake Superior State University where he will study engineering.

Adam LaLonde, 3.26, is the son of Dan and Jane LaLonde. Adam has participated in basketball and baseball during his high school career. Following graduation, Adam plans to enter the United States Coast Guard to become a maritime police officer.

Kyle Greene, 3.24, is the son of Jim and Deb Greene. Kyle is a member of the National Honor Society and has been an avid athlete all four years of his high school career. He was captain of both the football and basketball teams and participated in track. Following graduation, Kyle plans to attend an undecided college.

Randy Brege, 3.22, is the son of Norman and Eileen Brege. Randy is a three-year member of the National Honor Society and spent four years participating on the football team. Randy will attend Alpena Community College then transfer to Ferris State University where he will pursue a degree in machine tooling.

Cassy Brege, 3.14, is the daughter of Dean and Fran Ristow and Chuck Brege. Cassy has played both basketball and softball during her high school career. She has been a waitress at Chi Chi?s Restaurant for two years. Following graduation, Cassy will be playing softball at Alpena Community College while pursuing a career in medicine.

Adam Dehring, 3.10, is the son of Don and Brenda Dehring. Adam is a member of the Key Club, Ski Club and Natural Helpers, and has volunteered his time to work with Habitat for Humanity. He has participated in the Knowledge Bowl and ran one year with the track team. Adam will attend with Michigan Technological University or Alpena Community College to become a lineman.

Sarah Fuhrman, 3.04, is the daughter of Larry and Elizabeth Fuhrman. Sarah is a member of the National Honor Society and is a tutor. She also holds down part time employment, working at Glen?s Market. Sarah will attend Alpena Community College for her first two years before transferring to Saginaw Valley State University to become an elementary teacher.

Michael Haselhuhn, 3.04, is the son of Keith and Mary Haselhuhn. Michael is a two-year member of the National Honor Society and played baseball and golf for all four years of his high school career. Following graduation, Michael will attend Lake Superior State Unive

rsity where he will major in business management.

Kari Grigg, 3.00, is the daughter of Bill and Laurie Grigg. Kari was the Class treasurer and participated in student council. She was on the varsity cheerleading squad and was the Winter Homecoming queen. Kari will attend Alpena Community College in the fall where she will pursue general studies.

Justin Kelley, 3.00, is the son of Arthur and Janice Kelley. Justin is an avid athlete, participating in football, wrestling and baseball during his high school career. Following graduation, Justin plans to attend Alpena Community College to study criminal justice.

Megan Marx, 3.00, is the daughter of Mike and Alison Marx. Megan has been a Girl Scout for the past 13 years and participated in cheerleading, Natural Helpers, the City Band, and the Drama Club. She has played on the high school softball team, the jazz/concert/marching bands, and traveled to Orlando, Florida with Voices In Harmony during spring break. Megan participated in the Nautical City Festival Pageant and was the Drama Club?s director for the city-wide play ?Grease, the Rogers City Version.? She is a member of the St. John Adult Choir and was chosen Student of the Month for February 2003. Megan will attend Saginaw Valley State University to study nursing.
