Hurons advance to district semifinals

Rogers City overcame a slow start to take a 57-38 win over Lincoln-Alcona Monday in the opening game of district basketball play in Onaway. The Hurons led 14-4 after the first quarter, but Alcona marched back, pulling the score to 16-13 with five minutes left in the half.

Huron senior center Kyle Greene became the Huron all-time leading scorer by notching a game-high 28 points. with 1,099 points in 68 games (16.2 points per game), he passed the mark set by 1995 grad Ben Taylor, who went on to play at Adrian.

The Hurons (17-4) play Hale in Wednesday’s second game. Onaway, winless in 20 games, play Mio tonight. The winner of that game plays Whittemore-Prescott in the 6 p.m. game Wednesday.

Wednesday’s winners advance to the championship game Friday at 7 p.m.
