Local woman celebrates 100 years

Nellie S. Wilton celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and family on Thursday, March 4. Nellie was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1904 to William Henry Burton and Blanch Amelia Ainsley. Her first husband was Leland M. Shout who died early in life. She later married Owen A. Wilton and lived several years with him in Detroit before moving to Charlotte, Michigan after Owen?s retirement. Nellie had no close relatives of her own after her sister Dorothy passed away. However, her husband Owen had five children from a previous marriage whom Nellie loved dearly and they loved her in return.

Nellie was a highly accomplished organist and piano player who played for her church and in many other events. She was a deeply religious woman as a member of the Christian Scientist church. It is a part of Nellie?s belief that she should seek no medical treatment including medicine, doctors, or hospital care. Nellie has always been very careful with her diet and her health and has been very fortunate.

Nellie has been living with her stepson, Bob Wilton and his wife Nora Lee Wilton, in Onaway for almost ten years. Her family wishes her a very happy 100th birthday and asks that everyone keep Nellie in their prayers.
