Posen loses to Harbor Light in regional championship

NEWBERRY-A magnificent season came to an end Friday night in Newberry for the Posen Viking basketball team. The Vikings lost 51-44 to the Harbor Light Christian Swordsmen in the regional championship game. Each team went on runs, coming from behind to take the lead. Harbor Light had the last, and deciding streak to decide the contest.

Trailing 22-17 at halftime, the Vikings went on a 12-0 lead to start the third quarter. Posen led 33-29 entering the final eight minutes of play. In the fourth, senior guard Ron Kroll hit a jumper in the paint to give the Vikings a 42-35 lead with 4:17 remaining in the game. Harbor Light called timeout and came out of the huddle on fire.

The Swordsmen brought out a pressure defense and went on a 16-2 run to end the game.

Junior center Aaron Hincka scored 19 points to lead Posen. Matt Ponik scored 14 while Kroll added four.

The Vikings end a fine season with a 20-4 mark while the Swordsmen advance to the quarterfinal game Tuesday in Sault Ste. Marie.
