Health fair set for Saturday at RCHS

The 2004 Presque Isle County Health Fair will be conducted Saturday at Rogers City High School. It starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. Admission is free. More than 40 exhibitors representing health-related services in the region will be sharing a variety of information about their agency or business and offering a number of screenings free to the public.

?Hopefully it?ll be a fine event,? said health fair committee member Beach Hall. ?It?s an opportunity for all of the citizens in the county to find out what is going on with the health care delivery system in this area.?

A variety of educational classes will be conducted during the fair, and are as follows:

? Immunization for children and adults, 10 a.m.

? Glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration, 11 a.m.

? Healthy eating cooking demonstration, noon.

? Wills, trusts, advance directives, living trusts, 1 p.m.

? Alzheimer?s and dementia overview and care for the caregivers, 2 p.m.

The free screenings include blood pressure, behavioral health, and heart risk appraisal. There also will be testing for cholesterol and HDL throughout the day. The new mammography van will be at the fair. Appointments can be sc

The Red Cross will be providing CPR training starting at 10:30 a.m. with a small fee being required. There will be many door prizes including a grand prize of a Kewadin Casino package. Parents will have the opportunity to have their car seats checked for proper installation and a large variety of children?s programming will be offered. A food booth will be provided by the 11th grade students of RCHS.

Presque Isle County Council on Aging will be operating its bus service throughout the county for anyone needing transportation. Contact PICCA for more information at 766-8191.

The 2004 Health Fair is being coordinated by the Community Foundation of Northeast Michigan and its Youth Advisory Council, Northeast Michigan Hospital, Alpena General Hospital and the Area Agency on Aging. The last health fair in Rogers City was two years ago.
