Three file for two school board seats in Rogers City; Posen needs another candidate

The deadline for school board candidates wanting to have their name on the ballot for the June 14 school election has come and gone. While there?s a race for two available seats in the Rogers City Area Schools, Posen Consolidated Schools could use another candidate or two. Filing the required petition signatures before the April 12 deadline in Rogers City was incumbent board member Patricia J. Pike, along with newcomers Allan Smolinski and Armand Loiselle.

Pike, who will have completed her first term on the board June 30, has served as board president since last summer. Incumbent Dana LaBar has served for almost eight years and decided not to seek a third term. In Posen, the race is wide open for one write-in candidate to land a position on the board, as incumbent Doris Ponik was the only candidate to file petition signatures before the deadline. She will have completed her first term on the Posen school board June 30.

Another set of petitions had been picked up by a potential candidate, but never brought in. The second vacancy is available because incumbent Ken Pawalek decided to not seek another term. Any candidate interested in running as a write-in in either district would need to declare his or her intent to run and fill out a form at the central office by June 11, three days prior to the election, before 4 p.m.

The terms of the board seats will be for four years, expiring June 30, 2008.
