Greene first in three events at two track meets

Rogers City?s Kyle Greene continues to be the guy to beat as he took firsts in his three events at two different track meets. Greene was first in the high jump (5?10?), shot (47?10?) and discus (147? 9 3/4?) at the Kiwanis St. Ignace meet last Friday. Greene also was first in those events at the Rudyard Invitational earlier last week, high jump (5?8?), shot (46?7?) and discus (146?2?). He only seems to get better with each succeeding outing.

In the Kiwanis St. Ignace meet, in order of finish for the boys, St. Ignace was first (138), followed by Onaway (115), Newberry (98), Manistique (80), Rogers City (54) and Rudyard (38). In the girls events, St. Ignace was first (184), followed by Manistique (137), Newberry (71), Rudyard (58), Rogers City (40), and Onaway (29).

THE BOYS results had Derek McLennan in third for the 1600-run with a personal record time (5:00.24), while Aaron Smuda, McLennan, Matt Tomas and Jeremy Karsten took fourth in the 1600-relay (4:08.79). McLennan placed fifth in both the 800-meter (2:17.66) and the 3200-meter (11:32.49).

IN THE GIRLS events, Kristyn Blackmer took first in the high jump (4:10), and was third in the 100-dash (14.83), both personal records. Becky Bruning took third place in the high jump (4?8?) and Jessica Hempel was third in the discus (88?8?). The relay team of Sara Belusar, Sam Hurst, Susan Getzmeyer, and Blackmer took fourth in the 400-event (1:01.12), while Chelsea Kreft, Katrina Bruning, Valerie Schultz, and Janna Schaedig took fifth in the 3200-relay (13:41). Simone Kapala, Hurst, Belusar, and Getzmeyer were fifth in the 800-relay (2:12.72), while Schaedig, Kapala, Belusar, and Blackmer were fifth in the 1600-event (5:15), and Paula Vogelheim was fifth in the shot put (30?9?).

IN RUDYARD?S May 3 invitational, in order of finish for the boys events, Pickford was first (130), followed by Newberry (116), St. Ignace (113), Brimley (50), Rogers City (48), Rudyard (39), Engadine (19), and Mackinac Island (4). In the girls events, St. Ignace was first (151), followed by Pickford (109), Brimley (71), Newberry (59), Engadine (52), Rudyard (36), Rogers City (19), and Mackinac Islan

d (14). In the boys meet, Greene supplied the Hurons with three first place finishes and Smuda contributed a second in the 3200-run (10:52.23) and a fourth place in the 1600-run (5:03.01). The Huron relay team took fifth in the 1600-event (4:11.42) and McLennan was fifth in the 1600-run (5:03.73) and fifth in the 800-run (2:17.61). In the girls events, Blackmer provided the best showing with her third place in the high jump (4?6?) and Hempel had a fourth place in the discus (87? 8.8?). The relay teams added three fifth place finishes in the 800-relay (2:14.68), the 400-relay (1:02.32) and the 1600-relay (5:14.69).

Vogelheim had a fifth place in the shot (30?8?) and Kapala was sixth in the 300-low hurdles (1:04.54). The Hurons will travel to Cheboygan today (Thursday), to St. Ignace Monday for the 9/10 Invitational, and to the Petoskey Relays Tuesday.
