Greene named co-athlete of Mio Invitational

RCHS track competitor Kyle Greene was named co-athlete of the Mio Invitational last Friday, posting no less than three firsts that included two invitational records. His co-athlete of the meet was Ryan Schmidt of Grayling who was in four events and took first in the 300-meter hurdles with a new invitational record (44.04). Schmidt also had firsts in his other relay events, which included the 1600-meter (3:47.80), a new course record.

Greene competed in all individual events, jumping first in the high jump (6?2?) a new course record, first in the shot put (45?9?), and first in the discus (146?6 1/2?). ?Kyle?s discus throw broke his own 2003 invitational record of 132?7?. The high jump of 6?2? tied the 2000 effort of Nate Hinkle of Grayling,? said coach Stacy Malocha. The coaches voted a 4-4 tie for both to receive the honor as co-athlete of the meet. In the 3200-meter run, Aaron Smuda broke his own invitational record (10:49.53) from 2003 with a faster paced 10:46.

?Aaron won by a lot and was running strong the entire race,? said Malocha. ?He looked awesome out there. His time was much slower than he hoped to run and Aaron was disappointed, while other athletes were amazed with his performance.? The day was cold and rainy and it poured by the time the mile relay was run. ?Once the ?Close-Up Washington? trip is back, we are going to have our entire team together ? it was a tough week to be missing so many of our athletes,? Malocha said. ?We are looking forward to next week with stronger numbers.?

There were not enough athletes to run any of the boys? relay events. IN THE GIRLS? events, Paula Vogelheim threw first in the shot put with 31?2 1/2?, close to the 2003 record of 32? 1/2? of Callie Boik of Alcona.
