Habitat breaks ground for home project on Rogers Road
Presque Isle County Habitat for Humanity broke ground for the sixth home project the group has built in the past seven years. Director the Rev. Lloyd Ziebarth said, ?This year?s recipient is Amanda Dehring. She is a mother with two children. The site is 5523 South Rogers Road. The lot was donated by her grandparents, Gerhardt and Marion Brege,? Ziebarth continued.
Amanda will be required to put in at least 250 hours of ?sweat equity? working alongside other volunteers to build the home. It is expected that several brothers living nearby will contribute their efforts on the project as well.
?THERE ACTUALLY are four criteria for becoming a recipient for a home building project,? Ziebarth said. ?She must now be living in inadequate housing; she must be able to repay the zero-interest mortgage payments of at least $325 per month; she must help build the house; and fourth, she must work with Habitat to build further houses.?
Ted Planck is the building supervisor and Don Dehring will assume the construction supervisor position on the project. ?I am very excited,? Amanda said as she walked up to the site of her prospective new home. Rain was steadily falling but nothing could deter her smile of appreciation and excitement of anticipating her very own home and safe place to raise her two young sons, Tyler and Jacob. ?This will definitely be the first thing I?ve ever owne
THE ACTUAL house construction is expected to begin within the month. Habitat will be looking for volunteer laborers, donations from businesses for supplies, and a willingness to help provide adequate housing for someone who would otherwise not have that opportunity. Habitat is presently looking for recipients for a housing project that will begin this fall. The deadline for applicants to receive consideration for a home is June 15.
