Cross Country runners on the road in Cheboygan and Escanaba

The Rogers City Cross Country teams traveled to Escanaba last week for the Golden K Cross Country Invitational meet on October 2. The girls varsity team took second place in the small school division, missing first place by four points. “The girls all ran well. It was a cold start to the day with a breeze off the bay for the run by the lake,” Coach Rob Kortman commented.

THE ESCANABA results are as follows: Girls varsity: Lacey Kreft (3)

21:06; Chelsea Kreft (6) 21.43; Sara Belusar (13) 22:59; Sarah Bruning (16) 23:07; Cynthia Belusar (27) 24:38; Katy Fryske (32) 25:20; and Jessica Hempel (34) 25:41. Junior varsity runner Jana Schaedig took 15th place with a time of 28:26. The boys team placed fifth in the small school division with Derek McLennan leading the pack. Kortman said, “The boys ran well. It was their first taste of cold weather running.” Results for the boys follow: McLennan (1) 17:27; Mike Mierzwinski (23) 19:27; Eric Kieliszewski (32) 20:18; Andy Grambau (34) 20:20; Tyler Idalski (37) 20:37; and Andy Tulgestke (43) 21:21.

AT THE FIRST SAC meet in Cheboygan, run at the Black Mountain Ski Trail, the girls team placed fourth, and the boys team seventh. Girls varsity results are: Lacey Kreft (2) 22:40; Chelsea Kreft (10) 23:44; Sara Belusar (22) 26:00; Katy Fryske (20) 27:27; Cynthia Belusar (34) 28:12; Danielle Roeske (49) 30:28; and Jessica Hempel (51) 31:00. Boys varsity results are: Derek McLennan (11) 19:13; Charley Smolinski (28) 21:02; Mike Mierzwinski (29) 21:03; Tyler Idalski (42) 22:22; Andy Tulgestke (43) 22:24; Andy Grambau (45) 22:28; and Eric Kieliszewski (64) 25:11.
