Four-year varsity player paces Posen in win against Atlanta

Megan Latz didn’t waste an opportunity to shine in front of the home crowd one last time in a Posen Viking uniform. It was Latz’s last home game Tuesday and she scored a season-high 19 points in a 68-51 victory against Atlanta. The Vikings earned the season sweep against the Huskies and improved their record to 11-7. “She has been really coming to life,” said coach Tom Schellie.

Latz hustled up and down the floor and got many of her points on the fast break, according to Schellie. Posen has two regular season games remaining before the district tournament in Atlanta in less than two weeks. The team the Vikings open with in the playoffs is the one they are playing tonight on the road, the Hillman Tigers. Posen defeated Hillman in the first meeting.

ROXANN HINCKA was the second of three players for the red and white in double figures. She had 16 points and 14 rebounds for a double double, while Whitney Meeder scored 15 in her final game on the Posen home floor. Jenny Ciarkowski had seven points. Elizabeth Morton has been the lone shining star for Atlanta this season and finished with a game-high 20 points. As a team, Posen exceeded coach Schellie’s 45 rebounds per game goal by seven with 52. The Vikes had 22 assists and 15 steals, but the turnovers were too high for Schellie’s liking. The Vikings had 24 turnovers and will try to trim that number in their playoff warm up with Hillman. “The other stats made up for that,” Schellie said.
