Coach Dietlin debuts as varsity volleyball coach

First-year Posen volleyball coach John Dietlin brings his charges into a new season tonight at home against Arenac Eastern. The Vikings only have one scheduled date before the New Year arrives and it’s an all-important North Star League contest. The first game in January is at home against Hale. Dietlin, a substitute teacher in the Posen Consolidated Schools, has a senior-laden crew. Eight of the 12 players on the varsity are upperclassmen.

The majority of them bring loads of experience to the floor, including Katie Lewandowski and Megan Latz, two players who have been on the varsity since they were freshmen. Last year’s team posted a respectable 12-9 record. Dietlin takes over the varsity coaching duties from Mandee Hincka. Read more details about the 2004-05 team in this week’s winter sports preview.

The JV, under the direction of Mary Rubeo, who has guided the young Viking volleyball team to back-to-back NSL titles, begins its season at 6 p.m. today.
