New Year?s Baby at home, basking in loads of attention from her family

It was a busy, hectic week for Anna Kyra Misiak, The Advance’s New Year’s Baby of 2005. Little Anna made her entry into the world January 3 at Alpena Regional Medical Center just before 6 p.m., not only qualifying her as the first baby from The Advance reading area, but also as the first baby born at the hospital in 2005. That qualified her for numerous other prizes and got her a lot more attention. Also adding to the excitement for the new mom and dad is that Anna is their first child.

KEITH, CHRISTA, and Anna have been home to their old farmhouse in the country, northeast of Posen, trying to get into some type of routine. “We have family and friends visiting daily,” said Christa on Sunday afternoon. The family has been supportive of the couple, bringing over meals during the first week, which has made adjusting all the easier. “She is a lot more work than I thought she was going to be,” said Keith. As of Sunday, Anna still didn’t have a schedule, said Christa.

“We’re constantly changing and trying to figure out what she needs,” she said. “The first few days she had her days and nights mixed up. Now she is adjusting to the days and nights.” Anna was named after Christa’s grandmother. After Christa’s grandfather passed away, grandmother Anna came to live with her family when she was five years old. The couple, who have been married for three years, now live in Anna’s house.

IF IT WASN’T busy enough, Anna had jaundice, requiring daily visits to the hospital until it cleared up. “I think you are just so overwhelmed at first, especially the first couple of days that she was born because every time she whimpers or whines, you are looking at her to make sure she is okay,” said Keith. “Everybody talks about how they worry about their kids so much. If you are not a parent you just don’t understand. I definitely understand now, that’s for sure.” Christa and Keith have made a good tag team in the early going. When Anna demands another meal, Christa picks the baby up and Keith gets a bottle prepared.
