Posen fails to hold leads, drops second in a row

The Viking volleyball team will look to put a halt to a two-game losing streak tonight when it welcomes Hillman into the PHS gym. Posen (2-2 overall, 1-2 North Star League) was swept Monday at Mio, an outing where the girls had the lead in all three games, but couldn’t stop their opponent from going on long runs. The Vikes had a 12-10 advantage in game one against the Thunderbolts, but couldn’t stop Mio when they scored 15 consecutive points to put the game away, 25-12.

Posen was in better shape in game two after going up 16-12, but Mio snatched the momentum and went on an 8-0 run, and didn’t look back, as the Vikings could only get three more points. The final in game two was 25-18. Game three was a back-and-forth contest, but again the T-bolts triumphed, 25-22. The Vikings have lost their two outings to North Star League opponents, including a five-game match January 3 against Hale.

A match at Arenac Eastern, Posen’s only NSL win, was canceled because of the snowstorm last Thursday. The contest has been rescheduled fro January 19.

“It looked like we came out a little flat,” said coach John Dietlin of the Mio contest. “We need to jump on them early and put them away.” Courtney Romel had 30 assists and four aces, while Dorothy Romel had three aces. Whitney Meeder and Amanda Pieczynski both had three digs. The varsity is 1-2 in league play and 2-2 overall. After tonight’s match with Hillman, Posen travels to Atlanta Monday.

The Posen JV upped its record Monday to 3-0 in the NSL, defeating Mio, 25-23, 25-9, and 27-25. Michelle Mulka had nine serving points including four aces. Kate Olsen had seven serving points and two assists. Jenny Ciarkowski had six assists, two aces, and one dig. Elyse Perrault had eight assists and two digs.
